{The future Miss Lily Anne}

I’ll admit…..Maternity shoots just really aren’t my thing. Since I’m being honest…..I’ll also say that I just don’t think I’m very good at them.

I can hear all the “oh my gosh, did she just say that?!?!?” gasps.

I know it’s probably doesn’t make the most business sense to just full on admit, “meh….I’m not very good at maternity pictures….but please hire me.” But I like to think of it as more of just being honest. I know some really AWESOME TALENTED photographers who are not good with newborn shoots or are not good with weddings or are not good with kids, etc. So we’ll just say I don’t feel super confident in my Maternity niche. I think I was scarred for life at one of my first maternity shoots. It was one I just did for practice. The mom had some of the nursery bedding and thought maybe we could use it in the pictures. She by no means forced me to use and was totally up for doing anything I asked, but I have no idea what the heck I was thinking when I did one of the pictures. Let’s just say it looked like she birthed a ladybug baby blanket. I think I was just desperate to get a piece of the decor in one image and I didn’t put much creative thought into it.  Whatever.  It was a   b a d   i d e a.

SO anyway- I think my creativity in the maternity field never really soared after that blooper. It’s not that I won’t do them, it’s just that I have trouble thinking of ideas that haven’t already been done or aren’t all over freaking pinterest!!!! Don’t even get me started on my love/hate relationship with pinterest. I LOVE IT, but at the same time….I hate it. I don’t think there will be any original ideas left. Everything is going to come from or be recognized from pinterest. But then again, it’s an awesome place to get ideas from….getting a starting point from. See??? love/hate.

Pinterest was a major player in this maternity shoot. LUCKILY Allison is one of my good friends and totally knew where I was coming from. She knows I’m super pumped for Lily’s newborn shoot and will totally rock it, but she also knows I’m just kinda like, “ok, what do you want to do?” about the maternity shoot :-) So she pulled up her “maternity picture ideas” board on pinterest and we started shooting away. Mr. Jack was involved in quite a few of the pictures and I’m quite certain this kid will never trust me EVER AGAIN. I kept telling him if he did this, he could go outside……but then I had him do one more thing and then he could go play with chalk….. but not quite yet…..you have to do one more thing and then another thing and then another thing and then……………then he decides he doesn’t care what I say and ditches me :-)

Actually- he didn’t ditch me at all. He fell for our “one more time” lines up until the end and then had a mini melt down because his mom took the chalk way after he drew on the wall and the chair, ha! I think his melt down was totally understandable. I would have been TICKED OFF had I been strung along all afternoon like that. oh the things we have to do for pictures :-)

 So Allison is going to kill me for posting these next two, but i think they’re adorable.  I had her laying on the couch, but i kept making her scoot down, cross her legs and push her belly out.  The whole process was hysterical and I was crying, I was laughing so hard.  She was yelling, “you CAN NOT Post these on your blog!!!!!!  You can only post kid blooper ones, not these!!!!!”  BUT I LOVE that she is laughing in the picture and I think she looks too cute…..so it’s getting posted…..because I’m the boss of this blog :-)   I would love to have a picture of my mom like this when she was pregnant.   Allison will be able too look back on this and see what a cute, happy, care free pregnant mommy she was :-)

 This next one might get me in even more trouble.  This is when I was like, “seriously, like really push your belly out!”  It just make me laugh and that’s why it’s getting posted :-)

So just a few things…..

Our New York trip (what I got for Christmas) has been postponed until June.  We were supposed to be leaving at the end of this week, but my mom’s knee has been giving her all sorts of heck lately and she would be absolutely miserable if we went to NYC right now.  So thank goodness for travel insurance :-)   I’m actually pretty excited to go in June and not March.  We won’t have to worry about frigid temperatures and snow!  So now I would say, “who wants a photo shoot next week?!?!?”  but I think I’m doing Bentonville & Dallas…..so if you live in either of those places and want a shoot- send me an email :-)
