{I decided to give a Mac Book Pro a whirl}

It’s been one of those weeks…

A little over a week ago I headed to KC to visit Andy & Autumn and to help out Caroline & Jared move out of their house.  I didn’t really “help”, but more so just sat there while the movers moved everything and Caroline was at work :-)   After a long two days of dealing with good movers and not so good movers, Caroline and I hit the road to kirksville on Monday evening.  Jared had already left for Tampa to start work and Caroline decided she would spend her last week in Missouri at home :-)    Once we made it back to Kirksville I went into HARDCORE editing mode.  Everyone else sat out by the pool….I sat by my computer.   I got all the Kirksville Spring Mini Sessions done and uploaded and I had just started to finish up some sneak peeks and…………my computer shut off and refused to turn back on.  This happened the day before, but I just let it sit while I went and did a shoot and it turned back on later that night, so I figured this was the same type of deal.   Turns out that was a big fat NO!   My processor was fried, my battery was done and my graphics card was done.   I joke (and I say that lightly, because I am pretty darn annoyed by the whole deal) that the kirksville spring mini session sent it over the edge :-)  My big investment, pretty darn expensive, supposed to be “ultimate” computer had TOTALLY crapped out on me in under 3 years.  I’d like to say that it was a good computer for 3 years….but it wasn’t.   It was awful.  I was always having problems with the graphics card and overheating.   The warranty sucked and I had to keep buying the extended warranty and dumping just a DUMB amount of money into the total hunk of junk.

I knew I needed a computer and I needed one right then and there.   Everyone and their dog has been telling me to get a Mac.   Personally, I feel like the “apple” group is an overpriced, trendy cult.  BUT everyone loves their Mac’s and they rarely have problems.   I don’t have a Mac and I ALWAYS have problems.  I REALLY wanted to go with a computer with Windows because that’s what I had before and all my programs were windows format.  Another HUGE annoying thing for me is the fact that OneNote from Microsoft Office won’t run on mac’s and I use OneNote ALL THE TIME.   I seriously use it for everything.   Honestly- that was probably the biggest thing keeping me from getting a Mac.  Sad but so very true.   Long story short, I could get the mac the quickest, which means I could get back to work sooner and that sold me.  I HATED spending another chunk of money on a computer, seeing as how my last big fancy computer was a flop, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this new Mac Book Pro won’t let me down :-)

I picked it up today, on my way into town and I’ve been working and trying to teach myself how to make my old workflow work on a Mac.  I’m not going to lie, thus far it has been pretty darn frustrating.   I’m fine working on mac’s, I can do that just fine.  I got all my software transferred without any major problems (unless you consider spending more $$ a problem, grr) but my problems are things like, all my external hard drives have to be reformatted in order for me to add/change files on them.   It annoys me to NO END that I can’t just right click and batch rename files.    Just little things that I used to be able to do so quickly in my editing process that I’m now having to re-learn a different way or having to entirely do without.  A few issues I’m having have nothing to do with the mac itself, but more so what I can/can’t transfer from the hard drive on my crapped out computer.

Basically, it’s just eating up all my time.  Time that I don’t have right now.  But it is what it is and I’ll figure it out and get in my groove at some point.   So this is why I’ve been MIA for a bit.  MIA on the blog, MIA on Facebook, MIA on emails, MIA on messages, etc.   I would like to say that I can pick up from where my computer died and go on my merry way, but it’s going to take me time because it’s a totally different system, totally different way of doing things and I’m still trying to find things off my old hard drive.   Not having access to my OneNote Notebooks might be the death of me, but hopefully I can get that figured out soon :-)

For now, I have those sneak peeks for ya!   These do no include sneak peeks from my KC shoots or all the shoots I did in Kirksville this week.   I’ll get there.  Hopefully sooner rather than later :-)

    OMG – could these kids be any cuter??? Love all of these and can’t wait for more! Glad you finally made a decision on the computer replacement and you will probably be happy with your choice once you’ve adjusted to the Mac system. Everyone who has them says they are superior so I guess we should believe them, ha!

    these are GORGEOUS!!! those kids…oh my goodness. awesome sneak peak set. I think you’ll love your mac too. and you can program a right click on the mousepad to where when you use two fingers instead of one it brings up the typical right click drop down. I hate the no right click thing too!!!
